Jako, że jestem użytkownikiem pakietów TP, chciałem spytać innych klientów tej usługi (jeśli są tu takowy), jak sobie radzą z liczeniem wykorzystanego czasu ? Jakich programów/skryptów można do tego celu użyć ?

w syslog.conf umieszczasz wpis żeby logi pppd ladowaly do jednego pliku:

local2.*            /var/log/ppp.log

wtedy latwiej zliczac z jednego pliku. Ustawiasz logrotate, zeby
przycinal go pierwszego kazdego miesiaca i masz ladne miesięczne
logi.

Stawiam Debiana na laptopie Compaq Evo N160. Zacząłem od "Bardzo
Szczegółowego Przewodnika Po Instalacji Debiana 3.0" -- fantastycznie sie
instaluje.
Nie działała co prawda sieciówka ale wsadziłem PCMCIA i tędy zadziałało.
Problem był z X-ami... poszukałem i znalazlem http://repose.cx/n160/:

Are your media correct? Checksums? What laptop you use? Have you read
release-notes? They point to some installation related issues.

The problem is, even if I get the Gnome gui to load, all 3D functions will be deacivated as my Radeon9800 is not installed.

Stupid question: have you tried to install ATI drivers? Most of the
drivers shipped with Fedora have lack of 3D support.

Now, neither of both kernel versions will boot to gnome gui.

Really weird :/ On 6th July there was Xorg update. How about updating your
system? Maybe this would help. You can do it in console by typing

up2date-nox --update

You can also use yum - check this out:

Next thing: show your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file - maybe there are wrong
entries... Please look at the files in the /var/log/ directory (especially
at Xorg.0.log*) You may find there some useful informations, warnings,
etc. so you can figure out why it is not working.

I do not know how much you are familiar with Linux, but to make life much
easier use Midnight Commander in text mode (type mc in the console) :)

Hallo. I have problems getting the latest Kernel 2.6.7 compiled for SuSE Linux 9.1 Professional. I have a machine with ReiserFS installed. When i boot, i receive all the time the Error: VFS: Unable to mount hdb /hdb is the Linux hard disk, but why the system is unable to mount it, is for me very strange. I compiled the kernel twice, with built in ReiserFS and as module. Why the kernel is unable to recognize the file system is something i still don't understand.

It's not good idea to compile the fs as a module, cause it is used all
the time, so it should be in the kernel.
Did you do an initrd image which will mount the fs? Without it your

There is an Emacs directory but no emacs in it that I can see or that
responds to emacs "filename"...

whereis pico turns up zilch...

How to create a SVCD with mpeg2 5.1 sound from avi + ac3

Needed software:

Virtual Dub or NanDub
AC3_fix
ReMPEG
TMPEG

1st: extract the ac3 sound from the avi file with Virtual Dub using the save
wav option
Rename the output file to the extension .ac3

2nd: Use ac3_fix to fix the ac3 file as Virtual dub seems to produce errors
in the header of the ac3 file

3rd: convert the fixed ac3 file to a mpeg2 5.1 sound file with the tool
option in ReMPEG (Use max bitrate which is 384 kbits/sec)

4th: Convert the avi video file to mpeg2 svcd compliant with TMPEG (video
only)
make shure not to use a to high bitrate as SVCD can only use a total max
bitrate just over 2700 kbits/sec so do the math:
2700 - 384 (soundfile) = 2300 kbits/sec

5th: multiplex the mpeg2 video file with the mpeg2 audiofile (.mpa) to the
filan SVCD with mpeg2 audio file

6th: Burn this file to CD with Nero but make shure to switch of the standard
compliant option

Now you should have a SVCD with surround sound!!!

don't use the safedisk 2/3 settings in alcohol or the game won't recognize the

4.mount/insert the second disk both methods work just fine but beware the game
will launch auto-matically after mounting so close progs down first if u dont

For all of those who just downloaded Firefox 1.5 and can’t get your
extensions to work. This is a simple modification of Firefox’s
configuration to trick the extensions to work. No need to manually edit
the extensions to get them to work. Currently all the extensions I use
work except the bookmark sync extension that I so dearly want to.

        1. At the location bar, enter: about:config. This will show you a

Wcześniej nie pisałeś, że Gnome Ci się nie uruchamia.

Fakt. Troche niejasno się wyraziłem.

Wiedzieć to nie wiem, ale mogę trochę pogdybać jeśli bardziej się postarasz i podasz więcej szczegółów.

Jak juz pisałem, zainstalowalem woodiego, a potem zupgradowałem do sida.

Uruchamiam X-y a tu gnome wywala mi 3 okienka.

Pierwsze:

Drugie:
There was a problem registering the panel with the bonobo-activation
server. The error code is: 3. The panel will now exit.

Trzecie:
Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when
attempting to register the file manage view server.

Same X-y dzialaja poprawnie bo xfce uruchamia się bez problemow.

On my linux box a fc5.  in the grub.conf  I added a 3 at the end of the
line to not start x by default.

I did this on fc4.  Then when I upgraded the fc5 kept the convention.

So my grub config file looks like the following:

If I remove the 3 like I had in the fc4  X no longer starts.
I get some error that pops up and says that X has unsuccessfully tried
to start 6 times in the last 2 minutes.  click OK to continue.

I looked in /var/log/messages.

Now if I log in and start X

X runs fine, with one pop up box that prompts me for X session defaults
or gnome.  I always choose gnome.

Then when I log out X stops.

I must bee missing a config file or something like that.  But this used
to work in FC4.

Any Ideas?

Personally, I never ever ever use paid commercial support for fixing
problems with my Linux distros.

I *do* however use paid commercial support to gain access to updating,
configuration, and maintennance tools.  Red Hat, for example, has a very
nice (IMO) set of maintennance tools in their "Red Hat Network".  But you
have to pay for it.

Similar tools are available for the free distros, such as Fedora.

However, the corporate world being what it is, it might be worthwhile to
pay, say, Red Hat or SuSE for their corporate-oriented Linux distros, just
to get their maintennance options.  MEPIS provides commercial support as
well.

What do I mean by maintennance? I mean patches and upgrades of software on
your box.  Windows provides much the same thing -- the "Windows Update"
website is very similar to the "Red Hat Network" website, at least
conceptually.  (Every Windows user should be able to use Windows Update,
as every Windows user is supposed to have paid for Windows). Over the
long term, I have found it waaay easier to rely on paid maintennance from
Red Hat rather than tracking down and maintaining software packages
myself. Plus, if I die, the support is there for someone else to use.

For a smaller envrionment with limited resources (money), a free distro
will have maintennance tools that work very reliably.  Fedora comes with
Yum, for example, to maintain packages, and Fedora's system tools are
excellent.  MEPIS uses Apt (a Debian tool) to maintain packages.  Apt is
better than Yum, IMO.

It comes down to accountability.  You can pay for corporate support and
get corporate-approved accountability, or you can use free tools and lose
the accountability (or be accountable yourself).   For Linux, most of the
corporate tools are based on available free tools, and I have found the
free tools to be just as good or better than the paid tools.  But like I
said, you get accountability with the paid options, and not with the free
options.

3. Installation

quality of audio-playback and CPU usage on your system. These are:

This will use an alternative playback buffering system. It

might work better than the conventional buffering system on many

--with-pth (without --enable-newthreads)

Uses libpth instead of the OS-specific pthreads implementation.

This might reduce CPU-overhead and improve sound playback.

If you don't supply any of the above mentioned flags, the

OS-specific pthreads implementation will be used, with default

buffering mechanism. On FreeBSD no buffering will be used by default

since it will probably hog your CPU or simply hang. using libpth on

Free(/Net/Open)BSD is therefor recommended.

Nie rozumiem tego. Skoro jeden plik ma zast±piæ drugi to nic dziwnego,

NTFS Overview
=============

Legato Systems, Inc. (http://www.legato.com) have sponsored Anton
Altaparmakov
to develop NTFS on Linux since June 2001.

To mount an NTFS volume, use the filesystem type 'ntfs'. The driver
currently works only in read-only mode, with no fault-tolerance supported.

If you enable the dangerous(!) write support, make sure you can recover
from a complete loss of data. Also, download the Linux-NTFS project
distribution from Sourceforge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-ntfs/
and always run the included ntfsfix utility after performing a write to an
NTFS partition from Linux to fix some of the damage done by the Linux NTFS
driver and to schedule an automatic chkdsk when Windows reboots. You should
run ntfsfix _after_ unmounting the partition in Linux but _before_ rebooting
into Windows. During the next reboot into Windows, chkdsk will be run
automatically fixing the remaining damage. If no errors are found it is a
good indication that the driver + ntfsfix together worked to full
satisfaction. (-;

Please note that the experimental write support is limited to Windows NT4
and earlier versions at the moment.

Niezbyt m±dry pomys³ - w wiêkszo¶ci dystrybucji zdaje siê modu³ ntfs.o jest
skompilowany bez zapisu (eksperymentalnego) i s³usznie. Jak chcesz zapisywaæ
to musisz przekompilowaæ jajko.

Za chwile mnie szlag trafi, wiec blagam o szybka sugestie :) Musze przegrac pewien duzy plik, a man cdrtools (alternatywne wyjscie) mnie dobil :)

To zrób odwrotnie - nie przegrywaj z pod Linuksa na partycjê windows tylko z
pod Windows z partycji Linuksowej. Np. za pomoc± explore2fs.

XPDE? A moze raczej powinienem sie zapytac czy musze jeszcze cos dodac do
