Final Word:   I could go on for hours.  My advice to you is to clearly define the objectives you want to achieve by using Windows NT.  Then learn enough about NT to know you are achieving the objects, and understand what you are giving up.

some similiarities in language and perhaps also appearance (black hair,
swarthy complexion, rather short stature - typical of many South
Europeans).

The name Vlach or WoÂłoch in turn is derived from the province
of Wallachia (isn't it in Romania nowadays?), which was named
so by its Germanic inhabitants a long, long time ago - sorry, but
this is as exact as I can get; no time to search the Web now.

connection from Zagórz to Rzeszów. How long time does the bus take? Are
there other routes you can recommend?

By the way: Are there interesting places on the route to see for a train
freak like me? I don't think we have time enough to make any unnessecary
stops, but maybe we'll have some time in Szczecin, Warsaw or Kraków.

No tu akurat jak wół stoi o specjalnym splocie włókna aramidowego, które ma

Linux newbie.

fundamental differences between Windows and Linux like the one I just
mentioned, albeit obliquely. (The separation of the desktop layer from the
core OS).  There are a *lot* of ways that Linux is different from Windows
and, frankly, a *lot* of ways they are the same (or similar).  But
fundamentally, Linux is quite different from Windows, and a very common
mistake made by Linuxs newbs is that they want Linux to be exactly like
Windows, find out that it isn't, get frustrated, and give up.  To quote
Yoda, you must unlearn what you've learned.

Don't get frustrated.  Linux is way better than windows.  Really.  This is
not just opinion, it is proven fact.  Just get in there and learn it and
you will se why.

It might be good time to touch concept of quantums now. In fact when more
classes want to borrow bandwidth they are each given some number of bytes
before serving other competing class. This number is called quantum. You
should see that if several classes are competing for parent's bandwidth
then they get it in proportion of their quantums. It is important to know
that for precise operation quantums need to be as small as possible and
larger than MTU.
Normaly you don't need to specify quantums manualy as HTB chooses
precomputed values. It computes classe's quantum (when you add or change
it) as its rate divided by r2q global parameter. Its default value is 10
and because typical MTU is 1500 the default is good for rates from 15 kBps
(120 kbit). For smaller minimal rates specify r2q 1 when creating qdisc -
it is good from 12 kbit which should be enough. If you will need you can
specify quantum manualy when adding or changing the class. You can avoid
-warnings in log<- if precomputed value would be bad. When you specify
quantum on command line the r2q is ignored for that class.

I had a simuliar problem with a Proliant 5000, except it was the big a$$ CPU
fan, with thermal sensor.  The fan would quit spinning and the machine would
power itself off.  I was able to take the 5 drives in a RAID 5 array and
simply plug them into another Proliant 5000 and they came up perfectly.
Granted both proliants are identical configurations.  When we got the fan
replaced there was a power cable for the disk drives that had gotten pulled
loose.  I'm almost willing to bet that's all it is.  Recheck the power
cables for the drives and it should power right up.

This is a known bug in Win95B.  It seems that the new version of
VREDIR.VXD
that comes with Rel B of Win95 can cause corruption.  This is happening
with
other programs as well (Act! from Symantec).

Look at:

I've also heard of people simply copying VREDIR.VXD from Win95 or Win95a

Turns out the problem I identified in my earlier post is fixed when I
update the VREDIR.VXD file in the windowssystem dir.  "Old" Win95
clients (v4.00.95a) work fine, clients patched with a vredir.vxd time
stamped 11:16a also work.  Those under v4.00.95b with time stamp 11:11a
do not work.

"The network redirector (Vredir.vxd) caches data locally for files it
accesses on a microsoft networking server. If the file size does not
change or if the last modified time does not change within a two-second
period, the redirector reads file data from the locally stored cache
rather than from the file on the server."

There's an updated DLL that fixes locking anomolies that might also fix your problem. I can't seem to find my notes on this.  There are articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.  You might try searching on "lock", "dll" and "OSR2".

I found it by going to http://support.microsoft.com/support/
then picking Downloads (you may have to turn on the long menus
first before you can see "Downloads"), then Windows 95, then
Updates and Utilities.  (If I have messed up the order of any
of these, this should still get you close enough to find it.)

As nearly as I could tell, you want to get the file named
VRDRUPD.EXE and not the file named VREDRUPD.EXE.

linux jest darmowy, znaczy wg niej Prawdopodobnie tylko tyle, że można

Technique used here is similar to what I see in Poland. Ask stupid
questions. Ask offtopic questions. Ask _simple_ questions. We deal with it
either by:

2) laugthing very loud in public forum off troll's lame post/question

well, i had previously suggested that we could have intellectual debates initiated by any individual (reg or non-reg) and we can have write-ups submitted to the NG which could be discussed and debated on. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to dive into something really technical.

What I mean is, that there are more importand issues that website. Importand
thing is to have rules of what is valid to post/ask. What's offtopic and
what's welcomed. This has to happen in our heads. We need to have common
idea, an institution. The website would be then just a byproduct of our
needs; byproduct of a2h institution in our heads.

The fact of the matter is, there were some good guys in this group when i first landed in here. but eventually they got busy with their lives outside USENET or something and they stopped visiting this group. But all the same i agree that we could do with some intellectuals on this group.

This is a circle. We need more intelectuals, but they won't come because
there are not enough intelectuals. That's why I think this ng is destroyed.
We don't need a fix. We need to rebuild it.

the fact of the matter is, from what I have observed in the past, most of the good guys get bored and just leave NGs such as this rather than *doing* something about it and taking an initiative on their own. It's a good thing that you have taken up this point now.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) - If South Africa's campaign to lure
millions of people like 20-year-old Zander Smit back home is going to work,
it must convince them whites still have a future in the country.

Tens of thousands of white South Africans have left their country since the
end of apartheid in 1994, citing poor job prospects, endemic violent crime
and fears the country could go the way of neighboring Zimbabwe.

But dire predictions of racial trouble and economic collapse are
unfounded -- the stock market is hitting record highs and the currency has
strengthened for three years in a row.

South African banks and businesses now want the estimated 4 million to 5
million citizens overseas -- 1.4 million in Britain alone -- to return home.

But Smit, and many others like him, are not so sure.

"The country is in a make it or break it situation," he says in the South
Africa-themed Bok Bar in London's Covent Garden where he works. "I want to
wait and see what happens in the next few years."

Back home, Smit worked on a temporary contract for a mobile phone operator
but says he was never offered a full-time job because the firm had to meet
its ethnic quota -- part of efforts to give the black majority more control
of the economy.

He aims to join the British Army and hopes to get a British passport "just
in case."

Like many other South Africans overseas, he says that while the country
looks stable, he fears it could go the way of Zimbabwe, where the white
minority have lost farms and businesses and the economy is in ruins.

"The signs are there," Smit says.

ELECTRIC FENCES

Others say they left South Africa because of the high levels of violent
crime. Many whites live in compounds behind razor wire and electric fences.

But official statistics show the murder rate falling 9.9 percent in the year
to March 2004, and few analysts predict problems in Zimbabwe will spill over
into a country that has enjoyed more than 10 years of multi-racial
democracy.

Although official figures are not collected, moving companies say the number
of people returning to South Africa has increased.

"In the 1990s a lot of people were leaving for political reasons but now
it's leveled off. It's probably about the same amount leaving as coming
back," says James Paterson, marketing manager for Stuttaford Van Lines.

"Homecoming Revolution" -- a campaign funded mainly by First National Bank
and supported by the government -- says the country needs its overseas
citizens back, particularly if they have skills and want to start their own
firms.

"That way, we'll reduce crime by creating employment," says campaign
spokeswoman Martine Schaeffer, who came back to South Africa herself after
the job situation in London became tighter with the end of the Internet
boom.

Research shows each skilled worker who returns can create up to 10 jobs, she
says -- no small feat in a country where at least a third of the population
is unemployed.

BETTER LIFESTYLE

"People come back for a number of reasons. Some feel they never really
belonged overseas, for others it just didn't work out. Some were scared of
what South Africa might become," says Schaeffer.

Now some say the climate and bright economic outlook are more than enough to
tempt people back.

"People want to live somewhere where their children can play in the garden
every day because of the weather," says Shaeffer. "Even if there are bars
around the garden."

And in a country where half the population live on less than $2 a day, an
income that cannot buy much in Europe goes farther.

"For a very mediocre income you can have a large house and a very good
standard of living," says financial consultant Cornel Stander, who left for
Canada in 1998 and now runs her own business in Johannesburg.
